These are the two leading machines in vinyl crafting. Both are powerful and can grow with your business. The key is choosing the one that fits your current skill level and goals — and then sticking with it.

Chantelle’s take: I started with a Cricut Joy — tiny but powerful. Perfect for small items like glasses, bottles, baby grows, and notebooks. Portable enough to take to markets and personalise on the spot. But it has limits for larger work, so consider where you want to go before you buy.
You do not need both machines. Master one. Build sales. Then upgrade when your business demands it — not when your excitement does.

The biggest beginner mistake is buying everything at once. You don’t need every colour, every finish, or every accessory. Here’s what to start with:

Cheap vinyl peels, fades, and cracks — and your customer won’t blame the vinyl. They’ll blame you. Spending slightly more on quality materials protects your reputation, reduces redos, and increases repeat orders. Always test new materials before using them on customer orders.
